The builder
The builder is the form. What you type is what people filling it in will see, laid out the same way; there's no separate preview. You can build one on the homepage without an account.
Starting a form
On the homepage, "Start from" offers RSVP, Survey, Estimate, Signup sheet, Feedback and Blank. Picking one swaps the form in the editor; you can undo that like any other change. Signed in, New form opens the template list, which adds Application and Contact. Every template is a complete form you could send as it is.
Creating it without an account
Your draft is saved from the first thing you type, and kept for 30 days. When it's ready, press Create form and give your email. We send one link; it works once, for 15 minutes. Click it and your form is live, in a new workspace. There's no password, ever.
The Estimate template stops first at "These are example prices. Set yours before this goes live." Set your prices, confirm them, and it goes live like any other.
Adding questions
Type on the empty line at the bottom and a question appears as you type; Enter keeps it. Press / for the block menu: type to filter it, use the arrow keys and Enter to pick. A form has at most one estimate block. Every kind of question is listed in Question types.
A question's settings
Select a question and its settings open beneath it: the question itself, help text, a placeholder (for text, email, phone and number), a unit (for numbers, like "square feet"), the options of a choice, the slots of a signup sheet with how many people each takes, and Required. On a form with an estimate, questions the price can use also get a name for formulas. Escape closes the settings.
Moving and deleting
- Drag a question by its handle, which shows at its left on hover and focus. With the keyboard, focus the handle and press the up or down arrow, or select a question and press Alt with an arrow.
- The settings end with Delete question. Backspace on an empty question removes it too.
- Ctrl+Z (Cmd+Z) undoes, and Ctrl+Shift+Z or Ctrl+Y redoes.
Saving
Everything saves as you type; the editor says Saving, then Saved. If a save fails it says "Not saved yet. Trying again in a moment." and tries again every few seconds. On a live form, people keep getting the version they had until you press Publish changes.
Publishing
A draft goes live with Make it live; a live form you've changed shows Publish changes. Before it publishes, the builder checks the form and names the first thing to fix:
- "Give the form a title first."
- "Give this question a label first."
- "These are example prices. Set yours before this goes live."
- "The estimate's formula needs fixing."
- "Make an email or phone question required so you can send the price." (on a form that hides its price)
The first time a form goes live, its share page opens with the link and the code for your site (Hosted pages, Add to a site).
Your name on the form
Under a form's title, people see your workspace's name. Change it in Settings, under Workspace name.
